Dream with your eyes open: Book review 1!

I recently got a book free of cost from my section mentor. it was distributed in the whole university. At once I got the impression that it must be a very low-grade book and they are promoting the book. then I asked the mentor that sir why this specific book, when many other good books available on the same topic? he answered: because we getting this free of cost.

then it occurred to my mind that It’s not right to judge the book without reading this. after reading the book I had to retract my judgment because it came out to be an excellent book written on the entrepreneurship. the book is titled as ” dream with your eyes open” by Ronnie Screwvala.

Rohinton Soli “Ronnie” Screwvala is an Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist. He was the founder and CEO of UTV Group (UTV Software Communications, Bloomberg UTV, and UTV Motion Pictures), which was founded in the year 1990. Screwvala was the Managing Director of Disney- UTV India, Managing Trustee of the Swades Foundation and Founder & Advisor: at Unilazer Ventures Ltd., (a privately held PE/VC & Business Company). He has also founded UEducation Pvt. Ltd., an online education company.

In January 2014, Ronnie exited the company he founded and in the process, he also exited media and entertainment sector.

He has been named on Esquire’s List of the 75 Most Influential People in the 21st Century (September 2008) and ranked 78 among the 100 most influential people in the world on the Time 100 (compiled by Time Magazine, 2009).[2] He was also listed amongst 25 Asia’s Most Powerful by Fortune Magazine, titled the Jack Warner of India by Newsweek,[3] and named Entrepreneur of the year by Ernst & Young.

everyone needs a start to achieving something, but everyone doesn’t know how to start and eevryone is also not brave enough to make a start in one go. few people spend their half-life in deciding if they are gonna start something or not. before starting a new business, we always face lot’s of problems: it will succeed or not? I do not have any connections? where will I get resources from? these are few of the questions which strike our mind. in that case book like this comes handy.

here an experienced person comes and he shares his stories of failures and achievements which help us a lot to figure out whatever confuses us. as a beginner we have no idea about the business environment and how can we stand over there. it’s the experiences which make us feel comfortable and it infuses enough confidence in us so that we can make a start.

it’s not just about starting a new business but it also holds true for any other aspect of the life. whatever we do first time in life, to succeed we need to have a plan and a survival plan also.

there is some wisdom from the book:

it really does not matter what socio-economic background you come from, if you are from a big city or a small town, or if you have family connections. as long as you have the hunger to succeed, innate confidence in yourself and in your abilities, the guts and conviction to take sensible risks and a can-do attitude, you will prevail.
“I was bankrupt at eighteen, failed college the same year and it could have been the end of my dream for me. I chose not to let that happen. Never start thinking: ‘What will happen if I fail?’ If you are half smart, you will figure out how to survive.
“Entrepreneurship is a journey, not an outing. You cannot make a deal with yourself by saying, ‘I am going to try this out for two years and see’ Entrepreneurship is about living life on your own terms.”

“Disruptive ideas sometimes come from the most unlikely places and people. You never know when you are going to discover an interesting product, a path-breaking concept or even a brilliant error that could revolutionize an entire sector. Keep yourself open to the thousand opportunities that present themselves to you daily.”

the book has been written in a quite simple language so that everyone could get maximum out of the book with minimum efforts. this is a worthy read even if you are not gonna be an entrepreneur. It will make you a different person and you will get the insight of the internal environment of Indian cinema. As the author has been connected with tv and Bollywood so he will entertain you with quite interesting stories related to moving making in Bollywood and many other.
